The purpose of the Zoning Department is to enforce Chapter 11 [Planning and Zoning Code] and Chapter 13 [Building Code] of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Fairport Harbor. The intent is to promote the public health, safety, morals, comfort and general welfare of the citizenry; to conserve and protect property and property values; to secure the most appropriate use of land, and to facilitate adequate but economical provision of public improvements, all in accordance with the comprehensive plan of the Village.

Under the authority of the Board of Commissioners, the Lake County Building Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the applicable State of Ohio Building codes for residential, commercial, and industrial construction in its jurisdiction. These Building codes provide the department's inspectors with guidelines to help ensure the health and welfare of the residents. Certified by the State of Ohio, the Building Department provides Plan Reviews, Inspection Services, and Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Fire Protection Code information.

The overall mission of the Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) is that of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health and efficiency through an organized, committed effort, and organizing these benefits to enable every resident within the Health District to realize their birthright of health and longevity.

The LCGHD has four divisions:

  • Vital Statistics (Birth & Death records)
  • Community and Public Health Nursing (Disease Investigation, WIC, Immunizations)
  • Environmental Health (Food and Other Licensed Facility Inspections, Rabies Control, Air Pollution, Radiation, Plumbing, Sewage and Water)
  • Health Promotion (Emergency Preparedness, Planning)

LAKE METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY SECTION 8 PROGRAM

LMHA administers housing assistance for Lake County, Ohio through two federal housing programs, the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formally known as Section 8) and the Public Housing Program. These programs offer low-income households the opportunity to rent or own affordable, decent and safe housing.
